ASANO PRIDE AS A CRAFTSMAN VOL.1 : HITOSHI NAKAMURAVol.1 HITOSHI NAKAMURA

58 years has passed since the establishment of technology-centered Asano. There is a person who has accompanied the company for more than 20 years. He is Hitoshi Nakamura, who will embrace his 27-year in the company. No one represents technology in Asano more than Hitoshi Nakamura. Let us introduce the ardent craftsmanship in sharp contrast with his quietness and poise.

During the part-time period mainly relying on handwork, he assisted the craftsmen and learnt know-hows as well. It may be difficult to believe that he can process iron plates by using a saw, produce moulds by a hammer, compress the moulds and process sheet metals by stamping the surface.
After that period, Nakamura came acorss a great opportunity. At that time, to meet the requirements of client orders, the company introduced a type of machine tools(NC machine tools)(*3) which no one can operate in Asano.
However, the reality was cruel. In retrospect of the scene, Nakamura became serious. “The company was uneasy when the large-scale equipment was handed to a young man like me. In fact, I could operate the equipment by knowledge learnt after the equipment was introduced. However, this could not meet the expectations. We worked round the clock so that the parts could be delivered to the customers on time.” Until today, Nakamura still appreciates the tolerant company. But undoubtedly, he has already spared all his effort at that time.
There is another story about the introduction of laser processing machine tools. The evolution from handwork to mechanization was inevitable when clients’ requirement on accuracy was changed from the the first decimal place to the second decimal place. Nakamura spent 13 years witnessing the changes of the time at the forefront of production. Nowadays, Nakamura can still remember the scenario of how to “resurrect” just as he were watching the Korean drama(*4).
After that, He was allocated to the sales department and worked in the department for five years and a half. He brought about a new situation with creativity and efforts at his new post rather than clinging to the former work. He accepted new challenges in establishing relationships with major clients and dealing with complaints. Nakamura, who holds a concurrent post of director of the technology development department and a leader of the improvement project, is confident from his calm tone.
